General Motors Awards Hilton Head Buick GMC with Highest Honor

It’s no secret that 2020 created unique circumstances for everyone. But amidst the unprecedented times, Hilton Head Buick GMC achieved a record-breaking year…and they can now add the 2020 General Motors Mark of Excellence award to their accolades.

In the past year, the dealership — located in Bluffton, South Carolina — increased their annual sales and displayed excellent customer satisfaction. These are two key factors in securing the Mark of Excellence award: one of the most prestigious honors in the industry.

“Winning the Mark of Excellence award from General Motors is very special to our team,” said Shane Gault, general manager for Hilton Head Buick GMC. “It validates our Garber vision statement — “To be the best automotive sales and repair operation in every market that we serve” — and proves that it is being reflected in every department.”

Earning this award in a year like 2020 adds to the sense of pride and accomplishment.

“It was quite a feat to achieve a record-breaking year amidst Covid,” said Trey Smith, general sales manager for Hilton Head Buick GMC. “2020 was a strange year, so for us, it was a year of adjustments and being flexible. We had to keep moving and adjusting to the circumstances.”

Smith said that since Garber bought the dealership in 2018, they have received the Mark of Excellence honor every year.

“This past year was a record-breaking year, and we didn’t just beat last year’s performance; it was a record-breaking year in comparison to the years prior to Garber owning the dealership,” Smith said.

Smith said the staff’s immense focus and determination helped contribute to earning this achievement, which reflects the dealership’s culture and customer commitment.

The staff was focused on what we can do despite the circumstances,” he said. “There was a lot of fear with Covid, but that fear turned into an attitude of, ‘We can easily conquer and overcome this,’ and we did.”

2020 created a world with new routines— kids learning from home, spouses working from home, etc.—and the Hilton Head staff adapted accordingly.

“We want to thank our team for their hard work and sacrifice,” Smith added. “Everybody’s lives were turned upside down, and our staff were able to put in the effort and energy to get it done.”

Smith said he is grateful for the community’s commitment and dedication to the dealership.

“Our customer base was fantastic through all of this,” he said. “They still came out to the dealership; they still purchased vehicles. They showed their support and we are very appreciative.” 

Gault added that there is a sense of pride in earning such an honor.

“We are so proud of our team and excited for what we can accomplish in the future,” Gault said.
